Fat-Soluble Vitamins

Fat-Soluble Vitamins

Fat-soluble vitamins:

Fat-soluble vitamins

There are four fat-soluble vitamins; they are vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K.

These vitamins dissolve in fat.

The fat-soluble vitamins are carried in foods and into our bloodstream in a medium of fat or lipids.

Once these vitamins are absorbed, they attach to lipids or fat.

Because these four fat-soluble vitamins are carried in fat-medium, we need moderate amounts of fat in our overall food choices to absorb and store sufficient fat-soluble essential vitamins. Unlike water-soluble vitamins that can not be kept in our bodies, for the most part, fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in body fat.

When we plan a day's food choice, we choose vegetables and fruits, grain foods, dairy foods, and protein foods, with moderate amounts of good fats that deliver enough vitamins and minerals and plenty of phytonutrients.
